I know the internet is all a-buzz with the news that the Crackdown Online Multiplayer Demo has been delayed "briefly", but to me, that is very vague, and open-ended. As I was searching the XBLM today, a big ad on the right side of the Marketplace blade caught my eye "CRACKDOWN DEMO- Download it today!"
I thought "wow, awesome.. that was a very short delay indeed." But, to my dismay, the demo was nowhere to be found... I guess they forgot to remove the HUGE ad from the marketplace when they announced the delay. Has anybody heard any updates regarding the demos possible release, or why that ad was up on the marketplace today? ![]() I also read that the game (or demo at least) won't feature on-the-fly co-op the likes of which we've come to love in GOW... that's a shame ![]()

The demo wont have on-the-fly co-op but the fact that it has co-op makes me all tingly inside. The full version will feature on-the-fly co-op on Xbox Live and splitscreen co-op as well.

If you haven't Pre-ordered your HALO 3 Beta invite yet, go over to BUY.COM and pre-order a copy of CRACKDOWN including the HALO 3 beta invite. This is the first time I've seen anyone claming that you are "GUARANTEED" a copy of Crackdown that will have the Halo 3 beta invite attached to it. Here's the link. I'm going to post this in a separate thread also. But I'm hookin' the Crackdown loyalists up first
http://www.buy.com/prod/Crackdown_w_...202927470.html Ah, I thought they were scrapping the "On-the-fly" Co-op for the final game also. I hope you're right. I've been spoiled by GOW

Ill try the demo before the game. If they need to bundle halo 3 with it, something is fishy.

The latest Videos (the one on the dutch site and the Los Muertos Video on txb) both pretty much show you all you need to know/see and put away all the worries. At this point not much can go wrong with Crackdown anymore. I agree that adding the Halo3 Beta thingie smells funny tho. But I believe that is fairly easy to explain if you look at the Crackdown press coverage a little closer. Microsoft and Realtime Worlds have tried very hard to create a massive hype for Crackdown by releasing TONS of press information, dev builds, screens and videos to the press for a unusual long time already. The hype, however, never really took off. Ppl remained sceptical about the game because the earlier builds had slightly ugly graphics. Well no, they looked like real shit So over time, interest in the game dropped and kept dropping even tho they made huge improvements on the look and feel of Crackdown. Ppl simply stopped looking and reading. The game had a bad start in the media, maybe they started the hype too early ... who knows. It wasn't well received by a majority until very recently. So they kinda had to come up with something to create a lot of attention for the game. It's not that they add beta keys to sell copies of Crackdown. They do it to create attention and bringt Crackdown back in ppls minds, get them to look at it again and sell a certain amount for sure. That's what I think at least, maybe it's just the martians fault. |

Actually, nearly all online retailers are making this claim. See here, here and here for three examples. I could go on, but it's likely the first batch AT LEAST will have the Beta on. Not that I care, I'm getting it for the game, not some shitty Beta.

Hey hey, I have been super-quoted there. Must have hit some note right....
The game does look fun, but my question stands - if it is an awesome game, why bundle halo 3 with it like that? Surely other games could have Beta keys as well to help them sell? I am sure I am worried about nothing, but the demo will tell all. PS: For everybody who isn't getting it for the Beta, fancy giving me your Beta key? Unless you want to use it of course... ![]()

I heard the demo is going to be ON the disk, not some piece of paper with a code on it.

1up has a video preview of Crackdown. It's a bit odd, you should watch it. They seem to be very split up about it. Major flaws seem to be it's repetitiveness (quote "blah blah, SHOOT MORE GUYS" <--- repeats 20x throughout the preview) and the fact that getting to missions is almost more fun than doing missions. Another complaint was that it was way too easy.
On the positive side of things they said it's incredibly fun doing/trying stuff and just playing it. It's just lacks certain depths and obviously story. And they also kept saying how Crackdown has a lot of potential but doesn't use it. Seems the "next-gen-disease" didn't spare Crackdown after all ...... nice engine, lack of content. Business as usual these days. But like I said, you should watch the preview for yourself. I am actually glad I did so I know what to expect and what not to expect. |

Wait, you were going to buy Crackdown for its story? Oh dear, you set yourself up there. I might buy Crackdown (depending on demo) for it's funness, and Halo 3 BETA.

waiting to preorder based on demo...
kinda. prolly not. they modified some game mechanix as to allow you to get some sweet higher level powers in the short demo span. Quote:
it looks seemingly top notch, getting good buzz, and this was before the beta announcement. it has definately hyped the preorders... Is this the same Voyager2k from some other board? /topicality i hadnt seen the 1up write up on that yet. kinda dissapointing to hear, but i somehow still assume im going to play the crap out of it.

Funny, I find GTA about as fun as dryrot but for some reason Crackdown has great appeal to me. Maybe it's the super powers, who doesn't want to jump around the tops of buildings or huck cars like you were ensured to do so. I think the over the top aspect of the game distances it a little more from real life unlike GTA, if I'm going to murder people by the thousands I want it to be for a good purpose like the NRA.
As for the demo, anyone have any idea how they are going to work the co-op out? I have heard it won't be as sophisticated as the full version. I wish I was less at work and more drunk... |
