Playstation 3 - Who cares?

With the PS3 released today does anyone know anyone else whos intending on getting one? I'm not a x360 fanboy, as I also own a Wii, but i just can't see what all the fuss is about. The graphics are getting praise for being pretty good but the developers have had a year to hone their skill with the x360, so this is no suprise. Plus according to reivews the media connectivity is rubbish and the online is basic to say the least. Just can't see why people would pay more money for a machine that will at best be equal to the 360.

I've had the intention of selling it on eBay from the get-go . I also hope Square Enix will be smart enough to go multiplatform with FF (Versus) XIII and possibly release FF VII on XBLA.

Lol, FF VII on the Arcade will never, ever happen. Too many people want a re-make with stunning visuals, not an Arcade version which has been touched up around the edges (you know, giving them fingers and all).

I'd be satisfied with a visually unimpressive Arcade ... probably because I have never played FF VII

I love the FFVII graphics.
I dont know if I would like a remake of FFVII
as any changes I think would wreck it.
It would not bring back as much good memories.
If a remake was done I would like it to be a sequal
similar to advent children.

final fantasy is without a doubt one of the greatest rpg franchises ever, but given the recent rash of rpg's available I think square have alot to do, to maintain the high ground, there have been so much innovation over the last few years that they need to revise their format which probably hasnt changed for the past decade, but they do them well and stunning visuals and story telling.

PS- its a rash I like to scratch and scratch and.......

I've never played one either. The only RPGs I've played is marrowind, Oblivion, and zelda. There was one on gameboy i played ions ago, but don't remember what it was called. It was the same thing as the gens zelda though.

Out of interest have you sold it, from what i have been reading many PS3's on ebay are failing to sell for more than £400 (so are not selling at all) or the quite ridiculous 'buy it now' prices that are on there.

My brother bought one last Friday at launch and I have been playing a bit at the weekend.

So far though I am not really impressed, the games don't look anything particularly great most of them only run at 720p aswell which is strange considering one of Sony's big selling points is that it runs at 1080p.

The games I have played are
Resistance which seems a fairly average shooter that could easily have been handled on 360. As a launch game there is nothing new that we haven't seen on 360 yet. It is probably better than 360's launch shooter Perfect Dark Zero but Gears Of War blows it away.

Motorstorm is quite a decent game, the intro video looks amazingly impressive plus the extra vids included look great too. They involve footage of mountains and gorges which look absoultly stunning on a large HDTV. However it soons becomes all to apparant that the ingame graphics don't hold upto this very much. The game does look quite good but again nothing the 360 couldn't handle. It runs along quite smooth usually but I have noticed there is small bits with slowdown especially online.

Virtua Fighter 5 is the best game out of the three I played, the graphics look great and it runs at full 1080p. But as a fighter goes it's just Virtua Fighter that we have all played before. I prefer Soul Calibur and DOA. But it is good fun with mates playing winner stays on. This game is also coming to 360 at some point.

Overall for people who have played the 360, the PS3 doesn't offer anything new in terms of games at the moment. Although I know this will change in the future.

For PS2 owners obviously it is a huge improvment in graphics and online options. But as a 360 owner myself, I would rather stick with that.

The best stuff about PS3 so far is the Linux and HDD options, you can add videos and music to the HDD from memo sticks or flash pens.

Yeah I think if any 360 owner wants a PS3, wait about a year...at the moment it's only all the PS2 upgraders who are blown away with it....next gen for us was sooooo last year!

Yeah it's funny cos Ive been telling people not to get one, get an xbox360, and ive spent months trying not to pre-order one. Then I sweat it out on release day and stay in so as not to waste my money...then I saw one in action and realised that all the months I spent trying not to make myself buy one was the equivalent of wanking / having sex without cumming.

Gears of War is getting a PC release if u have a high spec PC...but it is boring after awhile though!!

Oh man, that's music to my ears. Though on my current PC it won't play too well haha. It'd probably be alot cheaper for me to just purchase a 360.

Multi-player Gears is awesome though.

One of the best things about it is the inclusion of four characters, they so should have made that four player co op. Would have been awesome.

Hi guys, right ive just got back from my sisters house after 2/3 hour session with the PS3.

First thing you notice is that its a slick peice of kit and a great design (even if it is a dust magnet!)
I booted it up and started motorstorm. Took a while to load but eventually i was in a race on a motorbike, now when i first got my 360 back in 2005 i can distinctly remember bring blown away by the shear beauty of the graphics and the machine. With the PS3 i thought "yea looks pretty good", i wasnt aw struck like i was when i first booted my 360. Although this could be because im used to my 360's graphics.

Anyway, i had a quick lap on motorstorm and wasnt that impressed, yea it looked good but i have seen better on the 360.
So next i turned on the SIXAXIS motion senser, i tilted the controller the slightest bit and my bike turned 90 degrees! Its so hard to control, although i did get used to it after a while. I think it will be good for racing games but just a gimik really.
Insidently my friends dad is a rally driver and i let him have a go and he was damn good! so i guess it just requires skill

The wireless controls are very very light, the same design as the PS2 which is good if u have a PS2 but not if you have a 360. As the analogue on the 360 pad is (in my opinion) perfectly placed for comfort when you revert bck to PS2/PS3 pads your thumb aches.

I like the triggers, they are similar to the 360 but id say a little better designed.

The Wifi made for instant internet access ad i was straight on youtube watching peter kay sing 500 miles! This is a very cool feature but imo most gamers have a PC near their console so browsing the web wasnt really a big plus for me, but its a nice feature.

The PS3 interface is identical to that of the PSP with a few more tabs added, i wasnt really keen on this with the PSP and still im not really a fan, it doesnt look as slick as the console itself or as the 360 dash.

The console was very quiet, but when i play my 360 i dont hear it as i have tunes pumping out.. this brings m to my next point, you cant (as yet) listen to music during games, and u cant use your iPod or connect to a PC to stream from. I know the PS3 has a 60GB HDD but on my iTunes alone i have 36GB and i wouldnt want to spend all that time transfering it and using up half the HDD. You can connect a USB pen and lisen to music but unless anyo ne has a 30GB usb pen then all my tubes wouldt fit.

I did only try Motorstorm, he had COD3 and RFoM but he left them packed up as he is ebaying it in a few weeks.


Overall i was impressed, that said i still dont think its worth it. If you asked me if its worth getting id say:
Short answer: NO
Long answer : Still no at this moment in time, with the lack of games, online features and the cost id say either get a 360 or give the PS3 12-18 months. That is when we'll know if they are worth having but right now id say get an XBOX360.

hope that helped, i tried to be unbiased but as i was playing i did have a slight grin on my face knowing that i made the right choice in buying my 360 back in '05 and not selling last week as i was contemplating

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that the lack of Rumble was a BIG let down, u notice it so much when you dont have it if that makes sense, playing motorstorm u expect to feel the THUD! as you jump from a high cliff down onto a rock..but nothing, its like in VT3, you play it its good, turn on vibration and its great.
