Default Surf the Web using the xbox360?

Is it just a rumor, or will we be able to surf the web on our XBOX360?

I'd love to have a wireless keyboard, mouse and surf the web on my big plasma....

any info?

Cheers,
-Rob

I would not doubt it. Sony and Nintendo allow it...so MS is sure to follow.

Personally I could care less about this feature. This is not a selling point for me. I cannot help but be concerned about potential website that could host malware.

My house has 4 computers that I can use to access the Web. My cell phone can access the web, my Pocket PC can access the web...no need to have my Xbox 360 do the same.

I first thought it'd be a good idea but then I read Gamespot's feature on the PS3 and found out that the browser isn't working so well. So if they did make it possible, it probably wouldn't be much different.

i'm kinda the same way, i dont want a whole bunch of half-functioning crap on my xbox, but i'd like all email functionality and simple pictures, so basically text and pics, no flash or anything like that. i could even do without the pics. just interesting to check the weather or something while i am sitting at my tv. maybe even like the wii with the weather and news channels.

It'll probably be an optional download if it even happens.

Also, I bet when you first heard about the cell phone having internet capabilities you shrugged it off too, Right? Don't you use it now? It's true that the Xbox is for gaming, but at the same time a cell phone is for phone calls.

-Or if you've ever watched a DVD on your xbox. Yeah, I've got about 6 different things that can play DVDs in my house, but did I complain when I learned that the Xbox 360 had dvd playback? Nope.

I also don't complain about Excel being included in Microsoft Office. Do a LOT of people use it? Yes. Do I ever use it? No. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be there. It's just an added program (that isn't required) that would come into good use if I ever decided to run it.

 spoiler:
I've gone through this too many times I've just realized.

I just went on Wii opera, it's pretty cool!

Heres a question, will Sony's internet browser be able to stream Windows Media content?

Actually no I do not. I do not even play games on my cell phone. I may be a geek, but I only use my phone for....well phone stuff.

I do not play DVDs on my Xbox 360. I had a DVD player for that, and recently got the HD DVD add-on to play DVDs and HD DVDs.

When I did have the Wii, I browsed the web twice...and verified the weather twice... Come to think of it,. that is more than I played on it..LOL

Well, that's you. I bet more than 50% of the average dudes can apply their situation to what I said. I've just got an SDTV, sometimes I do check the weather or headlines of news on my phone. And yes, I've watched a few DVDs on my Xbox. I don't need some theater setup every time I lay on my bed and want to watch some movie for a little while.

Same thing applies to the internet for me. If I'm just laying in bed about to sleep or something, it might be nice just to check xboxic to see if any news had happend since I last checked. Just for a glance, not hours upon hours of internet browsing.

....as always though: to each his own.

I do hope that MS does include a web browser, for some will put it to good use. I just indicated that this was not a selling point for myself, and will most likely never user it.

Well, if it connected to a gaming portal, where you could read up on Xbox 360 titles...that could be cool.

It could be okay to use occasionally, as Chris said, before bed check here and whatnot, only problem being, would you really want to pay the extra they are going to charge for the browser? cause you know they will..if they dont they will for a wifi mouse+keyboard (you know it will be wifi.. 2 USB ports isnt enough in the first place). So would you be willing to pay for these thing when the browser will only be used occasionally..and really be more of a novalty than anything else?

Actually I didn't shrug it off. I saw great potential, such as combined PDAs and phones being able to use the same connections for getting traffic information, downloading emails and making reservations and the like while on the road. Which is exactly what I use my smartphone for

The counterquestion is of course: we all know how there's automated home systems that allow you to raise room temperature from work so it'll be comfortable when you get home. Should the central heater then also contain a webbrowser simply because it's connected to the internet anyway?

It is however a thing that inherently works. Browsing the internet without mouse+keyboard inherently does not. Also, DVD playback doesn't open all sorts of security holes in the machine, which including an IE-based browser would most certainly do (which is my biggest argument against including the damn thing btw)

You can buy Word separately cheaper you know if you don't plan on using Excel

How did you know I had such a setup? It is great. I can use my cell phone to access my home network and turn on/off my home lights, increase the temp of the house, even startup my Xbox 360 for me. I do all this via phone function, but I guess I could also do it via the web browser on my phone, but I hate typing text on those silly things.

"We don't comment on rumors or speculation."

BUT. I did read or watch somewhere when Peter Moore said they weren't looking to create one 'probably', but if the want/need was there in the future something would probably need to happen. Pretty much meaning that if everyone uses the PS3's a lot and the Wii's a lot then obviously there'd be a demand for it. It seems that I'm in a small minority of people who want one though. :/
