So They Finally Did It....

Looks like Sony finally caved and dropped the price of the "3" to $499. Sucks becuase not a single hot game besides Resistance (not that great) and motorstorm (great graphics), which means I could have waited to buy mine until now. Lord knows its been in the box for weeks. I also heard the price drop is only in the US. Guess that means we can expect a drop on the 360 soon too.

Im not expecting 360 price drop, nor see why there should be? The PS3 price drop is justified to attract more gamers.

My PS3 floats around the place. Im not bothered about paying more money to have had it sooner rather than wait for a price drop, because it's like most things I own that de-value, HDTV ! Laptops ! Even my fucking leather Mirror, but it happens.

I just want tons! more DLC on the PS3

With the $499 PS3 positioned against the $479 360 Elite, I'd very damn well drop the price on the 360 soon if I were MS. Probably won't happen before holiday season though, since that's where the beatings are made and taken.

The pricedrop is pretty enticing. I think I'll end up getting the 80 gig for $599 since I was planning to buy Motorstorm anyway. (If I ever got a PS3)

Couldn't agree more. If Peter Moore really wants the 360 to do better than the Xbox and avoid the sudden "halt" that the Xbox experienced, then they have no choice but slash the price. And when I say slash the price, I mean slash it good.

Shouldn't the Core be priced at $249, according to Pachter ?

But wouldn't that mean they are losing their value on the Elite. That means for an extra 50 bucks you get HDMI support and an extra 100 gigs.

$40 is a lot for 20 gigs, but MS' 'sweet deal' of 20 gigs for $99 is like $5 a gig. bigger yuck.

I'm moving this weekend and sold my old projection tv to my current roomate (you throw a Wiimote through my tv, you buy it.), and am looking at getting a new tv.

So I narrow it down to a great 1080p set (Philips Ambilight 2 42" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV Model: 42PFL7432D), but i realize then that 1080p over Component only works for video games and videos stored on the hard drive of the 360, it does not work for HD DVDs and DVDs due to some AACS / CSS limitations. So then I look into that, and apparently those limitations are implemented in the form of an 'Image Constraint Token', which reduces the quality if a digital signal is forced through an analog connection. This token tho, isn't necesarily on every / any DVD / HD DVD. It's left up to the dvd distributor to decide, and from what i read everyone pretty much agreed behind the scenes to not use the token until 2012.

But then even knowing all that about the token, people on forums still claim 'look, 1080i is the best you will get over component for HD DVDs, but your tv will upscale it anyways and you wont even know the difference...' But who knows what really would happen.

So then i started freaking out, and looking at other tv's that had a VGA input, none of which got as good reviews as that Philips. But then I realized... who cares if I can't get 1080p on HD DVDs... Blu Ray is winning the war, and PS3 just dropped it's price...

So there's still the nagging of my roomate in my ear saying 'vga looks better than component' even though they're both the same resolution (1920x1080, 1080p), and are both analog signals... But I duno. I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy the tv, buy a PS3 and connect it via HDMI for 1080p movies (woo!), and use my 360 to get 1080p over Component for video games and marketplace content (and maybe at Christmas i'll buy myself the elite and give my current one to a nephew).

I'm very happy Sony dropped the price . If i buy at Gamestop before Sept 30, I get 5 free Blu Ray movies. Woo!

(this has been a hectic, learning, desiring week. can't wait to move and have a beautiful new 1080p setup. wooooo!)

Blu ray movies...why? 20+GB of memory for a 1.5 GB movie and extra behind the scene footage and interviews oh WOW sounds like a Lambogini with a Neon engine and 2 liter cup holders and 20 hooks for coats...what a waste.

ya its funny tho that despite the price drop, the ps3 cases at all the strores near me remain untouched and the 360 cases are almost always still empty.
o ya and i heard that the 80 GB ps3 will not be including the backwards compatibility chip that the 20 and 60GB versions had for running ps1 and ps2 games, it instead features a software emulator for BC, which works better im just curious for if i ever do get a ps3 which would be better/reliable...?

especially since ps2 1nd ps1 emulation would be my biggest reason for buyin the system
so that leads me to another question, does the ps3 have standard ps1/ps2 controller ports so i could play my oldschool DDR or the old guitar hero games?

Sometimes i do think the sony product s appearance is really appealing .However the price to some extent is too how . Maybe some day the price drop ,every person could possess something of sony .this day i wish will come near to us

I was going to get one, until they said they were just getting rid of it, because they discontinued it. And then the one game that I was considering buying(lair) gets bad reviews.

As far as I know, Sony's called it quits as far as PS2 first-party support goes. Third-party publishers on the other hand still make games for PS2, with the greedy EA being a magnificent example.

Underlined: I've either heard enough bad things about them to not care, or they arnt my type of game anyway.
Fact is at its price and in all honesty, poor quality and quantity of games at the moment, the PS3 ONLY warrents its price as a Blu-Ray player.
