I want a big screen that takes up little to no space, and is easy to hook up (meaning, no brackets into the wall, lol) what would be a good projector to get? i'm not a hi def fanatic, I'm just a casual gamer that wants a clear picture of the game he's playing. any ideas? and what price range should i look at?

Is there not the issue of light pollution if you are using anything other than a DLP as well? i.e you need the room pitch black for a clear picture.

I have an HD DLP projector. It is ceiling mounted, and I can play during the day, but my 2 small basement windows are tinted 80% black, and I am using a 106" screen made for DLP projectors. Most projectors will also have a bright mode on em, but this is not recommended as it will greatly shorten your bulbs lifespan, and they can cost $400-500 to replace. If you are using just your wall, you will find brightness a big issue, and will need a very dark room or use the bright setting on the projector, reducing the bulbs lifespan.
To answer your question thou, look at Optoma projectors. They are cheap and work very well.

I know quite a bit about projectors.
If you really want one that looks decent, you'll be spending at least a $1000 bucks (not inlcuding the screen), on a the projector. Also, the bulbs are expensive as hell, so you should think about buying a replacement plan from the retailer (if you don't use the plan, just drop the thing a couple times and break the bulb -- you'll save 100's of $$s on the new bulb). The bulbs typically crap out in five years (give or take), so it's a good investment to do the replacement play. K so even for (just) a decent projector, you're looking at around $1200. The cheapest way to get a screen is to use your wall. They make a really cool paint that gives your wall a matte finish a lot like a projector screen, and is a place you could save some monies on the project. Don't get sucked in by the price-point of a non-DLP projector. They have issues with light pollution (the room must be pitch black to look good), and the picture quality is significantly lower. You will kick yourself in the butt for not ponying up the extra $300 for a quality projector. All in all, you're looking at at least $1200, but $1500 is more realistic. |

Not that I intend to buy one, but how much do projector screens go for? A decent one obviously?

Depends on the size, $100-$300. Don't know the euro conversion.

Depends on motorized or manual pull downs. I got a manual pull down and the cost was about $400 Canadian after taxes and shipping. Shipping alone can cost you a few hundred as my 106" is actually over 2.5M long. Motorized ones of this size can cost $1500+

ya the light problems are my biggest turn off to projectors.
even in pitch black rooms, the picture is just so-so and if you have any sort of light comin through, you'll have a hell of a time seein whats goin on (not especially good for gaming), as for the HD projectors, i cannot say, i havent tried one, but i would say for the price, you're better off just splurging for a nice TV

Lighting is not really a major issue with newer projectors if you have a good quality screen. The screen is just as important as the projector itself.

I've never used nor seen a projector in use for gaming. I had read though that the image is basically similar to a rear projection tv only on a wall instead of a screen??
