Most of you know that I just got a PS3. Everything looks and sounds great but I noticed there are many settings within the BR menu. Is there anything I should be setting to make my HD experience better? I'm using HDMI on a Sony Bravia 1080p. I use optical audio as well.

For Video, make sure you run the auto-detect for HDMI so all resolutions are checked off, then Try Changing the RGB settings to "Full", and enable "SuperWhites". Try one at a time and see if you prefer the difference(s). Also, I think your TV supports 1080p/24, not sure if you have to check anything off on the ps3 to support this; but it should provide the best picture for blu-ray movies.
If you want to see some GREAT Picture Quality rent Planet Earth. For Audio, With optical out you'll want to leave the output in bitstream mode if you have 5.1 speakers. If you want to take advantage of the advanced codecs like DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD you'll need an HDMI Audio Capable Reciever Such as the Onkyo 606, Yamaha 663, or Pioneer 1018 (I've listed 3 budget minded, good dollar value recievers). Last... when you have an hour to spare and are bored at work this is a great page to get you up to speed with your new toy:http://www.edepot.com/playstation3.html |

Also, this isn't to do with BD Movies, but with the games sometimes if you have all resolutions checked it uses 720p instead of 1080p, such as GTA, which is a bastard.
And, I need to get one of these HDMI audio recievers methinks. EDIT: Damn these things are pricey! The cheapest i've seen is a Pioneer VSX-917V at £210 with no speakers D: Maybe I could get one of these from the US of A for my birthday, as it's my 16th and all. EDIT #2: Just looked on amazon.com and these prices are gooooood. If the shops have them at this, with speakers, i'll get one.

Hey Bleach, yeah I know it's "annoying" that you have to force some games to output 1080p, but realize that it's compromised 1080p. 720p for these games is often the better looking resolution.
Most of our newer tvs should do a pretty good job of displaying 720p content on 1080p screens. |

With my 360 I use 720p and it looks great. I have the older non-hdmi 360...
yea, great tips. I'll have to check those out. Almost everything I left at the default or auto. RGB limited, super whites is off. I guess I'll tinker and experiment with the settings when I'm on vacation. I've only watched Spider Man 3 so far and it looked good but it wasn't blowing me away. I assume some BluRay movies will be better quality picture than others, yes/no?

Yes, Capital YES. blu-ray.com does a pretty good job with rating video quality. All sorts of movies are filmed with all sorts of cameras. As I said, go rent Planet Earth, like now!
