Default Sony ripping off Microsoft in a big big way!

There've been a few interesting announcements today, by all accounts.

They've decided to ditch the stupid-looking pad we were all expecting and are instead going with a wireless version of the old duel-shock (a smart move, methinks).

However, let's just think about the new pad's features:

* Wireless capability as standard
* USB socket on the top for recharging
* A "Playstation Button" on the front (sound familar??) for accessing internal menus.
* Four led indicators for whichever player the pad corresponds to.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I think they've pretty much admitted they're nicking almost every XBL idea too, right down to having a "Playstation Card" which will contain "Playstation Points" for spending on downloadable features.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM....

Yeh your right!!!

That controller!!! What a cheap bastards at Sony.
I hope that they will lose this battle with Microsoft.

The launch of the PS3 wil go the same way as the PS2 the price way to high and no interesting titles for over a year.
And there Xbox life ripoff will fail bigtime.

Mark my words!!!

They are actually copying in another way. MS came out with a motion sensing gaming pad for the PC in 1998/1999 called the Sidewinder Freestyle pro. I know, because I bought one.

Sony is indeed leeching ideas from both Microsoft and Nintendo, only they are not going to be able to compete. I predict Sony will ultimately fall into 3rd place in the console wars. Microsoft has first locked up already and after Nintendo's press conference, I feel they will be giving Sony a tough fight for second (depending slightly on final retail cost of the Wii)
...just my 2 cents.

Sony will probobly survive this gen on name recognition alone. But MS and Nintendo will take a huge chunk out of there markett share. I know that I want a Revolution (i refuse to call it the Wii) from what I've seen and herd about the system.

In the mean time I will just laugh at Sony for there massive stupidity.

Yes, Sony are "ripping-off" Nintendo and Microsoft. But saying that, didn't Microsoft copy the Eye-Toy? And the Gameboy "toy-camera?" (forgot what it was called.)

If you look back, a lot of games and consoles have copied each other...

Yeah, and that's fair enough when it's the concept of an entire peripheral (like, say, a camera) - but the "Playstation Button" is so much a carbon copy they would have been just as well leaving an X on it.

I always liked sony, although i'm a Xbox Fanboy (explains why i'm working for this site ) But now Sony did go to far. I liked their innovations with the Slimline Playstation models (that slimline is REALLY small) but now they did steal to much for their own product. I hope their online service will fail, and see Microsoft as a new market leader, and Nintendo second. But that will not happen, because sony will win on name recognition alone.

As for the 'home button':
http://news.ccidnet.com/zhuanti/2005...roller_big.jpg
this was a few days after the xbox2 announcement, as you can see it is recessed so i don't think they glued it on because they saw microsoft had one too.

as for the xbox360 'trigger' buttons:
http://joypadgame.com/images/ps2/negcon.jpg

if have one like this at home, nice concept. But this is 1994, so there you go.

I remember a friend having a megadrive motion sensitive controller, but mattel made for nintendo in 1989 a powerglove or something, so that was earlier.

If you put the xbox 1 or 360 controller net to a dual shock and a sega dreamcast controller, then you can see who is the one that is ripping off
But some may be too fanboy to see that

That takes it a little too far E2k. You could also say Sony, Microsoft, Sega, and Nintendo copied off of Atari for having a 'controller'.

When you see someone defend a company after every single move they make, they lose their credibility.

Just because that picture showed the ps logo in the middle does'nt mean it's a button. Remember the xbox controller with the X in the middle? just a logo, not a button.

FYI. the controller as we all know it was created by nintendo back in the late 70s begin 80s somewhere. Everyone 'stole' that design. Atleast MS has the decency to pay for a licence

then all of the points you mentioned earlier are bullshit.

there is not a single thing of xbox that was a first to gaming.
so nobody can rip them off.

I thought the guide button was a pretty original feature, although I'm perfectly happy to be proven wrong if you tell me who did that first?

The "Ring Of Light" was also unique, and Sony have copied that, but again, if I'm wrong, who did that first?

the ring of light is that thing that you see flashing red all the time?

if you mean a led on the controller to identify which player it is, there obvious have been controllers earlier. first of all, some rc car 'controllers'.
Also a kid who i have to babysit sometimes have i think a mad catz controller that is wireless, and it has two 'frequencies', push the switch to the left and it will light the left red one, and visa versa.
Pirhana can also be the brand, anyway it is third party.

The 'guide' button..
Noobs!! The PSP has that already. check it up. it is called a 'home' button.

But to really put it into perspective:
the PSX http://www.presen.co.jp/EVENT/EVE/EVE-109/PSX.jpg
has a guide/home button.
While playing games you can press it and then you can watch/record tv, browse the internet, music etc.

Like I said, a lot of xbox fans, as you can see are total noobs, they think microsoft invented everything and so on. But the only thing they know is halo. But it's okay because you make me laugh anyway

The ring of light's never been red for me once (aside from when I was changing AV cables without turning it off first, but that was my own fault) - I've barely had a problem with my 360, happily.

Well mate, I told you I was happy to be proven wrong, and I can hold my hands up and admit, yeah, fine, I was wrong.

But the noob thing makes me laugh - I'm almost 25 and I've been playing computer games for 20 years now - can't keep track of EVERYTHING in the market, y'know!

I think the RC Car thing is a bit of a stretch though, because we're talking computer/console equipment, not toys - fair enough on the MadCatz thing though, although it doesn't auto-sense which it should be using by means of the auto-detect buttons on the controller/console.

Lastly, I'm not a MS fanboy by any means - I've owned almost every (non handheld) major console in the last 20 years, and every model of Gameboy aside from the new 'micro' ones. I've never gone near a PSP, hence why I didn't know about the 'home' button. The battery life issue put me off them, to be honest.

If I were to be fanboy-ish towards any company, it would be Nintendo, frankly, who always stick to their stance of imagination over technology, which is why they make the best games out there.

Ah it's okay, sorry if i called you a noob, but from your response you are not.

I just saw that you opened the topic, but normally when i see something like this, i read it and then i correct it, if it were wrong i mean.

But you probably made the statement to allow for some interresting discussion. Which is good, because it cannot be:

"xbox is great, the rest is stupid!!!"
"yeah"
"true dat!!"
"yeah man, i mean $ony sucks and nintendo is for kids"
"yes, healo rocks!!!"

etc all the time

hope you get my point.

In the contry i live, we have a media market, a shop chain with a lot of electronics and digital media.
I have seen two times that a xbox had a red ring.
I also made a movie of it with my cell phone. It was so funny, the xbox on one side said "read error" and the other one had the light flashing.
But there was nothing on screen so maybe they ripped out the cable like you said.

Well, it is a forum after all - without anything decent to talk about, it'll just descend to sniping and sillyness, which has its place, but it's a dark and evil place, full of bad spelling and terrible grammar.

The 360s in those shops may possibly have overheated, too - they're probably left on all day with very very little decent ventilation. You tend to find that's one of the main causes of so many people's problems with the 360 - they shove the powerpack somewhere with no air circulation and then wonder why it melts through the floor!

E2K: You are such an obvious Sony biased fanboy and you're at the wrong place to do your fanboy-damage-control-spells. I ask you kindly to keep your Sony biased comments to yourself or Playstation fansites.

This topic needs some fanboy images:
