Default NET Neutrality

How do you feel about 'Net Neutrality' and how do you see it affecting Xbox Live customers and/or the future of online gaming?

Got a link or care to elaborate? I don't think I've caught up on everything I missed during my holiday last week, but pretty sure I haven't heard of this

It may be mainly a US item right now. You can read about Net Neutrality online at Google News on NET Neutrality I am unsure how to sum it up w/o casting my judgment on it.

Don't have much time right now, but my first reaction on the Wikipedia article is "wacky Americans". Microsoft is firmly against btw:

Campaigns have also been launched by large content providers (including Google, Microsoft, Yahoo! and Amazon.com) in support of neutrality ([Don't Mess with the Net]), and by large service providers (including AT&T and Verizon) against ([Hands Off the Internet]).

oh yeah i've heard about this before. here's how it works: say you have brand x internet. you want to see brand Y's deals. the only problem is, brand X has blocked brand Y's website. so you cant see the competition, leaving you stuck with brand x. the government wants to pass a law prohibiting that.

Probably the result of big business pushing their weight around

I can't figure out why people are not paying for bandwidth already? I mean I own a webserver and I pay a price for bandwidth, I have several broad band accounts that I pay monthly for my "share" of the bandwidth. I just can see some ISP's already are blocking File Share and P2P programs on their network, I know one ISP in Wisconsin, USA has blocked Vonage and you have to pay extra, at loeast one international carrier too. Yahoo, Google and other providers don't have some magical connection to the internet for free do they? If they do how do I get my bandwidth for free?

In the Netherlands all internet connections except really basic stuff have unlimited bandwidth, simply because all customers would leave for a competitor if someone would start doing it. For Xboxic I have a terabyte of premium bandwidth to burn per month though

But from your arguments I understand you oppose net neutrality and support the plan that your ISP will have to make a deal with Google for being allowed to access their sites? If so you don't understand how the internet is being paid for and why it is going fine and fair now
