Question Would anyone prefer better features on Live ?

Does anyone agree with me that Xbox live should have better features?
I'd like to see a few shopping options to buy and get hardware / games delivered. Plus a Live Messenger tab for also being able to speak and send messages to those on MSN. I think we should be able to see the age and area of gamers also if a gamer permits this information to be visable, and search for gamers in our own area or something.

I live in Devon UK and it was 8 months before I joined an online game where I was randomly put with someone else who lives only 8 miles away from me. The chances of that happening again is rare

Doesn't it defeat the whole point of Live though that it hooks you up with random players that have an acceptable network connection to your current location? I think it'd suck if I were only hooked up with Dutch peepz

As for MSN, I suspect that's going to happen with the further integration of Live Anywhere and Vista.

I wouldn't mind being hooked up with Dutch guys, but I also wouldn't mind being hooked up to random guys around the world with a decent connection. What I don't like is Germans who have their filter set to German only, which happens in quite a lot of games.

I'm happy with what we have now and im sure over time it will evolve, i read in GameInformer today that Microsoft is planning a new xbox live update in fall, so theyre trying to make it better and better each time.

I believe that was the plan all along. 2 big updates per year and 2 smaller ones.. So they have to think of new things for the updates and I'm sure that MS Live chat will be one of those.
I'm sure Curry will post the link to an xboxic article below, so go check it out

i am sure with live anywhere that they mean VOIP and chat as well

so if you have a wifi windows mobile (a smartphone that works awesome) and a xbox 360 then you can communicate in either way.. maybe even the webcam function, and if you use Live (msn) it works as well.

Looking to the incredible interest in the Vision Webcam, I think every Live-update may be a succes. So they can do everything. First step? Introducing the 'consumables'. Jay.

Some sort of web browsing capability on the 360 would be nice (there are some third-party tools which already let you do this, aren't there?)

Alongside this, it would be nice if there could be some sort of mini Xbox.com accessible via the dashboard. What I mean is, it's great that we've now got these "Newly Released Downloads" sections where we can check what's new, but the average user without much internet access isn't going to know (for example) that Hold Em is released tomorrow, and that it's free for the first 48hrs only. Some sort of properly updated page showing future releases, giving more detail about the content of releases (e.g. what tracks or features are included in a demo, decent previews of the content of themes), accessible via the dashboard... that would be really useful.

Only via Media Center, and no intention whatsoever to officially support a web browser on the short term. Microsoft wants to keep the machine a console, and leave typical computer tasks for the computers. They're looking at integrating some sort of web content, but only games related stuff obviously (think cheats, reviews, previews etc.).

Actually there's a bug I'd like fixed... I've got a Media Center PC and I can browse to music on my PC from my 360, which is great. But there seems to be a limitation to how much you can browse; when I'm scrolling through artist / track titles, it gets to about F and then there's no more.

Probably Bill Gates' way of telling me I own too much music, but it's really annoying, I have to make playlists if I want to play anything after F...

Speaking of music via 360 or media center: They should put in an option to sort via folders instead of mp3 tag.. I hate that.. My pc has all music organized in folders and most of my mp3's don't have tags, so I'm allways looking for that one song and can't find it.. sucks major balls...

The French are even better at that

I think Live works just fine. It does what it is made for.

The original Xbox live did what it was made for too, but added features with Xbox Live on the Xbox 360 made it 1000 times better. Added features are always a good thing. Could you imagine live without downloadable demos/content in general? Microsoft striving to be better is a good thing.

Yeah I agree Chris, but they shouldn't overdo it . Browers, IM and all that sort of stuff only make the interface more complicated.

And it screws up the fact that it is basically a game console.

But if you want to take advantage of all of the hardware you've bought, why not make some software available that uses it in other ways? I mean, are you really going to argue that it can play dvds? Because that has nothing to do with playing a video game.

Yeah well but rendering moving imagery is a rather basic element of most games, browsing the internet and posting on forums is not

Also, the controller is fit for controlling DVD playback, not for browsing the net.

Well USB keyboard would do the trick. But I agree with you, Its still basicly a gaming console. MS should not try to turn it into a personal computer

I actually already use a wireless USB keyboard for my 360 I just keep it by the side of the sofa and whip it out if I need to type a message quickly.

Slightly tragically, I actually bought it to use in FFXI, before realising that it was a big pile of wee

Anyone have any idea when the Fall update is...I've searched around can't find any expected dates but someone else may have heard rumours?

The MSN thing like I originally wanted a long time ago is here - but would be better if you could cross communicate with webcam and voice chat too, needs big improvements other than text talk.

Plus I always wanted to group friends into different categories and show offline/online to each group because when Im in one game I keep getting invites to to other games.

Video marketplace whether it's there or not dont bother me because I rent films anyway - but waiting for downloads is a killer !! It takes long enough for a demo and a whole movie would just kill me...
